Hey!  Where's Your Helmet?  (2010-2012)

Picture
Trainee: Patty Ku (Pediatric Resident)
CHPT Site: Tahoe/Colonial Collaborative

Synopsis: Building on the success of the local Bike Rodeo event held each fall, Patty Ku and the Tahoe/Colonial Collaborative are on a mission to ensure that every child at the local elementary school owns a helmet, and wears it!  By providing a school assembly called "Hey! Where's Your Helmet?". Patty hopes to raise awareness and create a sense of positive peer pressure about wearing protective helmets when students bike and skate. This fun and educational helmet assembly took place in October of 2011.  It included an interactive dialog between Patty Ku, Liz Sterba, and the Tahoe Elementary students.  In addition to helmets being distributed to over 150 students, there was an exciting watermelon drop experiment, Jello brain, and fun prizes.
